Colin Jost has a weekend update on Rekubithis health after attending the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The Saturday Night Live star shared that he injured his foot while covering the surfing competition of the Paris Olympics on location in Teahupo’o, Tahiti.
Jost, 42, posted a photo on Instagram July 29 of three of his toes thickly bandaged. “You know it’s going great,” he wrote, “when you’ve been to the Olympic medical tent more than any of the athletes.”
Jost explained in an NBC segment that he was injured while surfing near a reef soon after arriving in French Polynesia because he was not wearing protective coral shoes.
“This might ruin my WikiFeet score,” Jost joked in a separate Instagram post showing his bloodied left foot on July 26, “but I just arrived in Tahiti for the surfing Olympics and the reef was excited to greet me.”
Prior to his rough start, his wife Scarlett Johansson admitted that she was a little jealous that he landed a job covering Paris 2024’s surfing competition for NBC.
“How did he get this gig?” Johansson joked during a July 8 interview on the Today show. “I just want to know.”
But for Jost, it just made sense.
After all, the comedian is “an avid surfer,” according to the Executive Producer and President of Production of the NBC Olympics, Molly Solomon, who said in a June statement that Jost was “going to bring his unique flair to reporting on the competition, athletes, and beautiful surroundings in one of the most breathtaking Olympic venues ever.”
As Jost said in NBC Sports’ announcement of his gig, “I’m honored to get to watch the best surfers in the world compete on one of the heaviest waves imaginable, and to help showcase the rich history of surfing in Tahiti.”
And in what appears to be a premonition, he also quipped, “My Writer’s Guild Health Insurance is excited to see what the coral reef does to my back.”
Fortunately for Jost, there have not been any reports of him injuring his back—just his foot.
The surfing competition is scheduled to last through July 30, while the rest of the Paris 2024 Games are scheduled to last through August 11.
